"Woody Pines is the best band I ever heard in my life I swear... I'm their biggest fan now!"
- Honky Tonk hero, Billy Joe Shaver. Woody's vintage vocals lead the band's hot
accompaniment, sounding at times like a reborn Bill Haley. This is roots music done hard
and fast, with a jump and jive sound you might have heard in the earliest days of rock 'n
roll. It's music that hasn't forgotten its old dancehall roots; the kind of music you'd hear at
a crowded rent party, as sweaty dancers crashed about a tiny room. Woody Pines has
taken the music that inspired his wanderlust youth and turned it into a living vision of
American roots music today. Woody & the band's last appearance at The Centre was for
some "one of the best gigs we've seen in years". As always, tickets are limited, please
book early to avoid disappointment! Doors Open: 7:30pm Commences At: 8.30pm
Admission: €16

Hosted by Donegal fiddler Tara Connaghan, Clann agus Cairde welcomes Gerry O'Connor
(fiddle), Fintan Vallely (flute) and Melissa Hayes (guitar / fiddle).
Their music celebrates the style and repertoire of South Ulster. Gerry, whose music has
been described as 'sparkling', 'immaculate' and with 'dazzling ability' comes from a long
tradition of fiddle playing with at least four generations of fiddler players in the family. He has
recorded numerous duet and trio CDs in the last number of years and released a solo
recording 'Journeyman' in 2004. Fintan re-appears from a decade of hibernation during
which he produced a a number of books on Irish music, most recently his mammoth 880 page
encyclopaedia 'Companion to Irish Traditional Music'. An expanded edition of his flute tutor
book is being republished this year as 'A Complete Guide to playing the Irish Flute'. Melissa
studied music at NUI Maynooth. She plays guitar, fiddle and many other instruments and
enjoys playing various genres of music including traditional Irish, blues and acoustic. She is
currently recording her debut album. Doors Open: 2:30pm Commences At: 3pm

In a forgotten but defiant bayou community cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling
levee, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by her childish optimism and
extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe
until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair the structure of her world in order to
save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable
catastrophes of epic proportions. Certainly the most remarkable feature debut of the year and a
sensation at the Sundance Film Festival, Zeitlin's visually stunning film approaches its
quasi-mythical subject from a magical realist angle. It is a tribute to the courage and
determination of the people of southern Louisiana in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Highly
recommended. Booking essential!. Director: Benh Zeitlin. Duration: 91mins. Language: English
